HERITAGE WALKS - BOOKS FOR SALE by IAIN WAKEFORD

Between 2002 and 2004 six Self Guided Heritage Walk booklets were published on Old Woking; Horsell; St Johns; Knaphill; Pyrford; and West Byfleet. The books costs £1.50 each with UK postage and packing costing £1.50 for 1 or 2 books, £2.00 for 3 or 4 books, and £2.50 for 5 or 6 books; the rest of Europe postage and packing costs £3 for 1 or 2 books, £3.50 for 3 or 4 books, and £4.00 for 5 or 6 books; with the rest of the world postage and packing costing £5.00 for 1 or 2 books, £5.50 for 3 or 4 books, and £6.00 for 5 or 6 books. For more than six books (or orders with other publications), we will be happy to provide an exact quote for P&P.

In 2005 I published two ‘Woking, Wells and the Real War of the Worlds’, cycle ride booklets.  The first was on Woking Town Centre & Horsell Common, with the second continuing the story (and ride) around Maybury Hill. These booklets costs £2.00 (RRP £2.25) with UK postage and packing costing £1.50, the rest of Europe £2.50 and the rest of the world £5. If you are wishing to buy both booklets just add £2.00 for that booklet (the postage will cover both), but for more than three booklets (or orders with other publications), we will be happy to provide an exact quote for P&P.

Finally my 2003 book Woking Town Centre - An Illustrated History (although it is essentially a short history of the central part of Woking - Goldsworth, Maybury, Heathside & Mount Hermon areas), would be too large to reproduce here in one file - so I have broken it down into three-chapter sections; Chapters 1-3 (Origins: Middle Ages; & Transport); Chapters 4-6 (Necropolis; Victorian Institutions; and Development of the New Town); Chapters 7-9 (Local Government & Services; Woking at War; and Early Post-War Woking); and Chapters 10-12 (Woking New Town Centre - The 1970's; Consolidation - Woking into the 1980's; and Another New Town Centre - The 1990's and Beyond) . If you want the printed version of the book it costs £10.00 (RRP £11.99) with UK postage costing £4.00, the rest of Europe £5.50 and the rest of the world £7.50. If you are wishing to buy more than one book (or orders with other publications), we will be happy to provide an exact quote for P&P.

If you would like a copy of the printed version of any of the above books, please email me at info@heritagewalks.org  for more details of how to order them. I am sorry I cannot accept Credit/Debit cards and I do not have a 'Paypal' account (or anthing similar). I know this is not 'normal' in this day and age of Amazon or Ebay(or similar sites), but as you may have gathered by now (if you have read my 'Home' page), I don't 'do' normal.

The Woking History Journal was first published in 1989 and was produced on a quarterly basis until the summer of 1991 when due to lack of finance it had to cease. PDF's of each are reproduced here (just click on the highlighted volume). Obviously the advertisements and 'news' items are now well out of date, but the articles are still of interest. Second-hand copies of some are occassionally available, please email info@heritagewalks.org for availabilty and prices.

Volume 1 (1989) included articles on the History of Woking Palace; The Place Names of Horsell; Brookwood Cemetery Guide (part 1); 100 Years of Woking's Mosque; and Bygone Byfleet. Volume 2 (Spring 1990) included Wells, Woking & the Real War of the Worlds; AWalk around Mayford; The Place Names of Byfleet & West Byfleet; and Knaphill in the Past. Volume 3 (Summer 1990) included The Blue Anchor and Nuthurst Murders; Brookwood Cemetery Guide (Part 2); Historic Horsell; A History of Skeet & Jeffes; and A Walk around Kingfield. Volume 4 (Autumn 1990) included Changing Woking; Horsell's Windmill; The Great Fire of Woking; Place Names of Pyrford; and A Walk around Lower Knaphill. Volume 5 (Winter 1990) included 900 Years of Worship at St Peter's, Old Woking; Grantley Dick Read Centenary - Woking's Childbirth Pioneer; Memories of Inkerman; A Walk around Horsell; and Place Names of Woking. Volume 6 (Spring 1991) included A Look at Maybury Road; The Steer Family of Horsell; 17th Century Traders Tokens of Chobham; and Brookwood Cemetery (Part 3). Volume 7 (Summer 1991) included Local Government in Woking; A Look at Goldsworth Road; Woking People in the Past; Two Pupil Teachers from St Johns; and Woking's Fire Brigade.

I have, of course, written several other books and booklets on the history of Woking, but as most of these have been for other publishers (or in collaboration with other groups or individuals), I do not feel at liberty to reproduce them here. I do have some copies of certain publications available for sale (as second hand copies), so if you are interested please contact me for details of prices and postage & packing. These may include (but not always) Bygone Woking; Woking As It Was; Woking 150, The History of Woking & Its Railway; and The Industrial History of the Borough of Woking.

I do have new copies of both Changing Woking, 1900-1930 now on sale at £6.00 each with UK postage for each book costing £4.00, the rest of Europe £5.50 and the rest of the world £7.50. If you are wishing to buy more than one book (or oders with other publications), we will be happy to provide an exact quote for P&P.

Unfortunately I no longer have available any of the Sheerwater Pylon - The First Ten Years.
